Building and expansion update: We as a church are in a very exciting and blessed position to be growing in numbers and also very blessed to have so many generous donations to help with the physical facility growth. The Shady Grove board met this past Sunday to discuss and make a recommendation to the church body to move forward with getting contractor bids for the new building, renovations toward the current fellowship hall, and improvements toward the current sanctuary. After many open meetings to hear everyone’s points of view and opinions, the board is recommending to keep the original plans to house the classrooms in the new building versus remodeling the fellowship hall for that purpose. Truly, most of the board members, including myself, went back and forth over the past few weeks, because there are pros and cons to both concepts. For Teresa and me, our final thoughts were determined due to the necessity of using the current wing extension that houses the little bathroom as an extension of the seating area for the sanctuary starting very soon. (We will set up chairs in that area and encourage those who are comfortable to sit there in order to leave more room for guests in the main sanctuary). Because of that, we feel child traffic in and out of the current fellowship hall would cause challenges and possible disruptions to the service versus having all classrooms within the new building. Due to our growth, we have to consider not only the classroom space, but the sanctuary space. These are all great problems to have.
We are asking all members of Shady Grove that are 18 and older to vote to allow the church to move forward in getting engineering completed, county inspectors involved, and licensed contractor bids for this building program direction. (Although there are members who are minors, the governmental laws require adult members for legal approvals.) This is NOT a vote to approve building or renovating anything, but only to get numbers so we know the cost of these projects. Once we have all of the numbers and we feel we can move forward to build and renovate, we will ask the church to vote to approve the construction. All costs of the new facility, the renovations of the current fellowship hall, updates on electrical, and current sanctuary improvements will all be looked at as a whole once we have all the numbers. Please understand that with all of the research, feedback, and personal desires we all have, the county inspector may point out things that become major roadblocks to our plans, so that is why we need to move forward to get professionals involved.
The vote will be on Sunday, April 27th (private ballots).
